Dr. Bruce Dorman ENT – Bradenton, Florida
For such a simple procedure of having tubes put in the ears, this has been the most horrendous experience since having gone legally blind from LASIK!
I sent Dr. Dorman the following letter after almost 9 months of hell since my surgery:

Dear Dr. Dorman,
In 4 days (April 26th) it will have been 9 months since you placed the tubes in my ears on July 26, 2018. Since I’ve had multiple sets of tubes, this WAS supposed to be a simple procedure, in and out, done.
First, let me begin with the balance issues. As you are aware I spent about 4 hours during recovery vomiting every time I moved my head. I have NEVER had any post-op issues such as this for EVERY procedure I’ve ever had. The anesthesia excuse was just that, an excuse. The balance issues still persist and I am finally seeing a physical therapist for the balance.
Next is the hearing – From the time I first saw you post-op (1 wk), I mentioned not only the balance being off but the vibration in the left ear rather than words. You told me it was mastoids and I did follow up at Silverstein who stated the mastoids were clean. After spending over a month back and forth at Silverstein AFTER I WAITED 2 MONTHS TO GET AN APPOINTMENT, by that time my left ear hearing was pretty much gone, in fact, by time I saw Dr. (redacted) at USF Tampa, no vibration, no sound, IT WAS gone!
Since July, I’ve had to UBER to most appointments or places I need go to, add to that $4,000 for hearing aids I cannot afford, physical therapy that I did not need prior to a simple procedure.
I’m already legally blind and my quality of life has diminished greatly on top of.
Gulf Coast stated you spent a considerable amount of time on the left ear during surgery. I did not find out the left ear drum was retracted until I got the operative report, so was this an issue or cause. And lastly when I had the fistula repaired on October 19, 2018, does that mean there was an air pocket in the fistula since July?
I am beyond perturbed! For a procedure so simple, please enlighten me as to why I lost my balance and hearing in the left ear.
Sincerely,
(redacted)
